Alabama: Melissa Hines of Prattville, Ala., received a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change when she bought propane gas for her new barbecue grill.

Alaska: Clayton Jirak of Anchorage, Alaska reports finding a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter on April 3 at a local bank. He considers himself the "#1 State quarter collector."

Arizona: Marlin Hartman of Phoenix, Ariz., reports finding a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change at the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport on March 25.

Arkansas: Ernie Chastain of Morrillton, Ark., reported getting his 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter April 1 at a bank in Conway, Ark.

California:  James Bolotin of Riverbank, Calif., reported finding his 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change after purchasing a punching bag at Copeland Sporting Goods in Modesto. At first he thought he’d received another Delaware quarter but to his surprise it was a Pennsylvania coin.

Colorado:  Steve Fagin and Walt Strickler, both from Boulder, Colo., were within hours of reporting their finds of 1999-D Pennsylvania quarters on March 12. Fagin said he got his in change at a local drug store.

Strickler reports getting his at a local grocery store. Strickler said when he saw the obverse he thought he’d found another Delaware quarter and "stashed it in my pocket. About an hour later I thought maybe it’s a Pennsylvania and sure enough, there was Commonwealth and the keystone on the reverse."

Connecticut: Anthony La Russo of Stamford, Conn., reports finding a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter March 25 in his change from the Bulls Head News Variety in Stamford. His wife Theresa said earlier in March La Russo also found a 1999-P Delaware quarter at the same shop.

Delaware: Leonard Zentz of Dover, Del., found a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter March 23 in change from a local bank.

District of Columbia:   Thomas C. Knoerzer received two 1999-P Pennsylvania quarters March 21 at a CVS Pharmacy in the Chinatown section of Washington, D.C. He later purchased two rolls from the manager.

Knoerzer said he used one of the first quarters he received for a "coin toss" at a children’s hockey shoot-out he refereed between periods of the Washington Capitals professional hockey game. He later gave the first two Pennsylvania quarters he found to two "very excited and curious nine-year-old players who did not win the competition."

Florida:  Robert Silvius of Orlando, Fla., and Rosemarie Dunn of Deland, Fla., are tied for finding 1999-P Pennsylvania quarters on March 12. Both Silvius and Dunn received the coins in change at a toll booth.

Georgia: Chip Cutcliff of Kennesaw, Ga., received his 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter at a bank March 27.

Hawaii: Randall Young of Hawaii reports receiving a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter April 30. He said he got the quarter in change from a woman visiting from the state of Washington.

Idaho: Gloria Robinson of Paul, Idaho, got her 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter courtesy of a fellow member of the Empty Pocket Coin Club. She said her friend Jeff works at the post office in Burley, Idaho, and was kind enough to save the coin for her in exchange for some information on the State quarters program which she was happy to provide.

Illinois:   Skip Stuart of Belvidere, Ill., found his 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change from a WalMart in Rockford, Ill.

Indiana:  Robert Hardin of Elizabeth, Ind., received his 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter on March 14 in change from a hotdog stand outside the WalMart store in Corydon, Ind.

Iowa:   George Barber of Salem, Iowa received two rolls of 1999-D Pennsylvania quarters March 19 at a bank in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, about 12 miles from his home.

Kansas:  Dennis Ryan of Colby, Kan., reports receiving a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter in change at a local coin and antique show March 13.

Kentucky:   James Frank of Covington, Ky., reported March 17 that he found a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter over the weekend at his local Kroger store.

Louisiana:  Norma Shaney of New Orleans, Louisiana, found her 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter at K-Mart on March 20 by just asking the clerks if they had any in their tills.

Maine:  Johnna Weaver of York, Maine, got her 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter free from the Maine Gold and Silver coin shop in Portland on March 27.

Maryland:  Kenneth E. Swab got two 1999-P Pennsylvania quarters in change at a Roy Rogers restaurant at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Massachusetts:  Robert Lamica of Florence, Mass., got his 1999-P Pennsylvania coin at a flea market on March 21.

Michigan: David Bowers of Dowling, Mich., reports he found his 1999-P Pennsyvlania quarter in his change after purchasing stamps at a local U.S. Post Office. Bowers said this is the first State quarter he’s received in circulation.

Minnesota: Jessica and Tom Seifert found their 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter during a St. Patrick’s Day concert in Bloomington, Minn. The couple said they were attending the concert at a Bennigan’s restaurant and spotted two Pennsylvania quarters in a bartender’s tip jar. They were "extremely excited to have spotted them, the next step was to coerce the bartender to trade them to us. After receiving an extremely strange look, the nice bartender obliged. We aren’t sure if any of the banks in Minnesota have been putting the new quarters into circulation or not. It’s fun to think about where these pieces really might have come from knowing that the concert was attended by folks from as far away as Washington, D.C." The Seifert’s add that they hope "everyone else is having as much fun looking for the new coinage as we are!"

Mississippi: Donald Young from Lumberton, Miss., received a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter at a Biloxi, Miss., casino on April 18.

Missouri:  Jaime Oestreich of Fulton, MO, reports receiving a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter on March 20 in change from a local Quick Shop store.

Montana: Chris Benton of Red Lodge, Mont., reported to Coin World April 27 about finding and "losing" a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter while working at a local business. Benton said he found a Pennsylvania quarter in a change box while making change for a 10-year-old boy. Benton said the boy "was extremely happy to find it stating ‘My Dad and I have been looking for these quarters for awhile. We’re from Pennsylvania and haven’t found any yet.’" Benton said he explained the program to the boy and hopes he’ll catch the collecting bug.

Nebraska: Frank Gourley of Hastings, Neb., reported receiving a 1999-D Pennsylvania coin from his bank on March 18.

Nevada: Robert Moore of Henderson, Nev., reports finding a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter April 6 while clearing a jammed slot machine at casino in Primm, Nev.

New Hampshire:  Sandra Teets of Nashua, N.H., reports receiving her 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change at a one hour photo lab on March 27.

New Jersey:   Len Marshall of Paramus, NJ, received his 1999-P Pennsylvania coins from his local bank on March 21.

New Mexico: Wayne Kowalski of Alamogordo, New Mexico, got his 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter March 31 in change from a snack bar.

New York: Mike Serwon of Hamburg, N.Y., reported receiving a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change from the corner gas station on March 17.

North Carolina: Debra Cress of Mt. Ulla, N.C., reported finding her first 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter in change from a vending machine on March 21.

North Dakota: Niles Mueller of Jamestown, North Dakota, reports finding a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter on May 3. Mueller is a window clerk for the U.S. Postal Service and says he’s been seeing the Pennsylvania quarters since early April.

Ohio: Carol Campbell of Defiance, Ohio reported to Coin World on March 18 that she’d found a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change at the donut shop where she works.

Oklahoma:  Terry Bellows of Oklahoma City, OK, bought a roll of quarters at a local convenience store on March 21 and received his 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter.

Oregon: Roger Harrison of Springfield, Ore., found his 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter at a bank in Junction City, Ore., 11 miles north of Eugene, on March 26.

Pennsylvania:   Bill Sampson of Primos, PA., reported finding the first Pennsylvania quarter on March 6 at a local Giant Food store.

Rhode Island: David Petrone of Burrillville, R.I., reports getting a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter in change at Dino’s Park and Shop in Chepachet, R.I.

South Carolina:  Cindy Muldrow of Columbia, SC, received two 1999-P Pennsylvania quarters at a Rush’s fast food restaurant on March 21.

South Dakota:  Two collectors tied for First Reports for South Dakota. They were within hours of each other with their reports of finding 1999-D Pennsylvania quarters on March 27. Gary Haan got his coins at a bank in Sioux Falls and Jon Christopherson of Brandon, S.D., got a roll of quarters at his local bank and reports he’ll "be spending them far and wide soon – I love this new program!"

Tennessee: Matt Reardon of Louisville, Tenn., reports he received a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter March 18 from someone who purchased candy from his mom.

Texas: Nicholas Adams of Port Neches, Tex., got his 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter from a roll of quarters on March 18.

Utah: Jay Trujillo of Salt Lake City, Utah, reports receiving a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter from a friend who works in a restaurant.

Vermont: Alan Kamman of Lincoln, Vermont, got his 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter April 1 at his local bank. Kamman adds that bank employees "have been very interested in learning about the program and I’ve shared articles with them from recent issues of Coin World. They have also been very cooperative in getting new coins for me and other area collectors."

Virginia: Jason Terril of Vienna, Va., reported finding a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter on March 22. He received the coin in change from the Reston Town Center Mobil gas station. He asked the cashier if she’d seen the new Pennsylvania quarter. Not only had she seen them but she looked in the till and passed it on to Terril.

Washington: Betty Shenkin and Tami Gooding of Castle Rock, Wash., report they found a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter at a local Minute Mart convenience store on March 23.

West Virginia:  Gaynor Cosner III of Ridgeley, WV, reports receiving a 1999-P Pennsylvania quarter at the Bank of Romney in Romney, WV.

Wisconsin: Darrell Kurth of Grand Marsh, Wis., reported he received a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter in change March 28 while visiting the Wisconsin Dells.

Wyoming: Janet Crenshaw of Sheridan, Wyo., reports her son Tyler found a 1999-D Pennsylvania quarter April 2 in his receipts from candy vending machine sales. She said they’ve found about three rolls worth of 1999-D Delaware quarters so far.
