Did you see the Wells Fargo stagecoach deliver the 2008 Arizona quarter dollars to the launch ceremony in Phoenix on June 2?
Did you get your free mint-flavored ice cream after the ceremony?
The Wells Fargo Bank N.A. supplied the Arizona quarter dollars given away to children and the $10 rolls exchanged at face value after the ceremony. Some of the coins arrived in a strongbox aboard a Wells Fargo horse-drawn stagecoach. Arizona Treasurer Dean Martin accompanied the strongbox to the Capitol for presentation to Gov. Janet Napolitano.
The Wells Fargo stagecoach complements the design of the Arizona coin, which features a detailed image of the Grand Canyon along with the saguaro cactus, in the foreground. Inscribed on the coin is a banner reading grand canyon state.
The Dreyer's ice cream company provided the sweet treat at the Arizona Capitol Museum's Ice Cream Parlor, just steps away from the ceremony on the Arizona State Capitol lawn.
The museum's store sold the Arizona Commemorative Folio, sponsored by Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold LLC.
The folios contain a circulation-quality 2008-D Arizona quarter dollar. The proceeds from the sale of the commemorative folios benefit the Arizona Centennial Commission to help pay for the 2012 celebration of Arizona's statehood.
A total of eight companies helped sponsor the event to welcome Arizona's coin into circulation. Sponsorships like these have helped put a local stamp on State quarter dollar ceremonies around the country for much of the program.
Other states have used their State quarter dollar release ceremonies to remind citizens of the history of their statehood as well as the state's cultural contribution to the nation.
In September 2001 those attending the launch ceremony of the Vermont quarter dollar were able buy sugar snow, maple cotton candy, maple candy and maple popcorn.
Vermont's coin design shows a man wearing a scarf and cap, checking sap buckets on two maple trees with a view of Camel's Hump Mountain in the background and the legend, freedom and unity.
In June 2003 the Maine quarter dollar ceremony offered visitors foil-wrapped chocolate candies bearing the coin's lighthouse design.
In keeping with a Western-theme, when it was Missouri's turn to host a launch ceremony in August 2003, state officials delighted the audience of more than 3,500 people with a Pony Express rider delivering a mock-up of Missouri's coin to Gov. Bob Holden.
In September 2005 Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius rode into the State Fair Grandstand arena in a red stagecoach.
In June 2006 a Wells Fargo stagecoach delivered Colorado quarter dollars from the U.S. Mint in Denver to the state Capitol for the state's ceremonial launch.
