In the May 19 “The State Quarters” column, collectors were asked to exercise their memories.

Specifically, collectors were asked if they could name the state and the year of issuance for State quarter dollars bearing legends aside from the government mandated texts.

So how did you do?

Did you challenge yourself not to look at the coins?

Or did you do what some folks do when they are working a crossword puzzle and get stuck (sneak a peak at the answers, in this case the actual coins)?

However you arrived at your answers, this little quiz provides you with yet another way to generate interest in the State quarter dollars program.

Here are the answers:

The Bay State – Massachusetts 2000

The Equality State – Wyoming 2007

The Evergreen State – Washington 2007

The First State – Delaware 1999

The Great Land – Alaska 2008

The Magnolia State – Mississippi 2002

The Ocean State – Rhode Island 2001

The Old Line State – Maryland 2000

The Palmetto State – South Carolina 2000

The Silver State – Nevada 2006

Crossroads of America – Indiana 2002

Crossroads of the Revolution – New Jersey 1999

Crossroads of the West – Utah 2007

Forward – Wisconsin 2004

Foundation in Education – Iowa 2004

Freedom and Unity – Vermont 2001

Gateway to Discovery – Florida 2004

Gateway to Freedom – New York 2001

Live Free or Die – New Hampshire 2000

Land of 10,000 Lakes – Minnesota 2005

Musical Heritage – Tennessee 2002

Spirit of Courage – Alabama 2003

Virtue, Liberty, Independence – Pennsylvania 1999

Big Sky Country – Montana 2007

Chimney Rock – Nebraska 2006

Crater Lake – Oregon 2005

Grand Canyon State – Arizona 2008

Land of Enchantment – New Mexico 2008

New River Gorge – West Virginia 2005

And just for fun, can you name the seven State quarter dollars that do not bear any inscriptions on the reverse aside from the government-mandated ones?
