Louisiana:   Gerald Daquin of Harvey, Louisiana, was surprised to see the Denver Mint marked Delaware quarter out so early in the year, especially "when you’re used to waiting to see new coins until later in the year."

Filled-die errors occur when dirt, grease and other debris clogs portions of the incused design elements on the dies (the pieces of steel used to form designs on coins). These types of errors are very common and appear on all denominations of coins every year.

Miller had heard about the State quarter program months before and was shocked to hear the radio station offer $100 for the coin. She willingly gave up her Delaware quarter and claimed the reward. Sungenis, a collector since childhood, said he had ulterior motives in offering the reward – "I wanted to get people looking at their change closely. And, of course, for the fun of it!"
